About the General Board of Global Ministries
The General Board of Global Ministries is the global mission agency of The United Methodist Church, its annual conferences, missionary conferences, and local congregations. It is organized into eight program areas, the Women's Division, and General Administration.
The term "program" has multiple meanings at Global Ministries. It indicates institutional components of the agency, mission tasks, and discrete projects. Programs also equal relationships. The work of mission in virtually any context involves relationships-- interactions in the name of Jesus Christ between and among persons and organizations.
Global Ministries missionaries witness and serve in dramatically different locales and cultures and engage in a range of professions and activities. The Rev. David A. Markay and his wife the Rev. Kristin C. Markay (above, with their children) serve as pastors of the multi-cultural, English-language ministry of the Chiesa Metodista di Milano (The Methodist Church of Milan) in Italy.
Our Purpose
Global Ministries' purpose is found within the expression of the total mission of the Church. It is a missional instrument of The United Methodist Church.
