Health Care Volunteers (HCV)
A national organization related to the United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) and the Mission Volunteers Program Area of the General Board of Global Ministries.
We invite and enable health care professionals and other interested individuals to nurture and witness their Christian faith through ministries of healing of body, mind, and spirit, as servants of Christ, providing health care to a world in need.
Governed by a ten-member board of directors, two from each jurisdiction, our mission is "to know God, to love God, and to serve God as Christ's hands throughout the world."
Our membership includes health professionals, counselors, pastors, administrators, and others who may wish to participate as valued members of our health care teams. We are a Fellowship because of the nature of the relationship that forms when we serve in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and his healing ministry.
The HCV vision is for a well-coordinated international organization that will:
1. Assist and support existing jurisdictional and conference volunteer health care organizations and help develop those that currently do not exist.
2. Work toward a network of support for health care volunteers throughout the United Methodist connectional system.
3. Build an international database listing potential team members, leaders, and individual health care volunteers, their skills and availability.
4. Recruit volunteers and help link them with health care teams.
5. Assist in matching teams and individual health care volunteers with areas of need around the world.
6. Provide leadership and team development training specific to health care teams.
7. Provide guidance, inspiration, and resource support for health care teams and individual volunteers.
8. Work toward making a real difference in the health of the communities we serve.
9. Reflect Christ's healing ministry by our words and actions.
The Knock Newsletter
Our national newsletter, The KNOCK, tells our mission story, features valuable information, lists present and upcoming teams, and provides opportunities for both teams and individual health care volunteers.
In health care mission volunteering, you can use your skills to help those who are suffering and in need of healing. Reaching out with compassion to others can be the most rewarding experience of your life.
