Peace with Justice
The mission of Jesus Christ and of his Church is to every nation regardless of its government or its ideology. The Christian ministry of reconciliation and peace extends to every person without respect to place of residence or status. Therefore the church is called to rise above narrow loyalties of nation, race, class political ideology or economic theory. The Church is called by Jesus and the prophets to proclaim the demands of social righteousness without which peace cannot be secure.This is the foundation of United Methodist Women work toward peace and justice. United Methodist Women s work for peace and justice include:
- Prayers for Peace Campaign, launched at the start of the Iraq War;
- Advocacy Program for U.N. Concerns, which educates United Methodist Women members about the work of the United Nations. The program also trains and appoints five advocates -- one in each of the denomination s geographic jurisdictional areas -- to organize workshops and seminars that interpret the Women's Division s relationship to the United Nations and international affairs;
- Seminar Program at the Church Center for the United Nations, which educates United Methodists about the United Nations and global issues.
